PhD position available!

There is a PhD Student position available in our group to study mechanisms of axonal degeneration in hereditary spastic paraplegia

A three-year PhD position is immediately available in the laboratory of Elena Rugarli (http://rugarli.cecad-labs.uni-koeln.de/). We are looking for a highly qualified and motivated PhD student to join our team investigating the mechanisms leading to axonal degeneration in hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP), a progressive neurological disease characterized by the dying-back of central motor axons. The project will explore the cellular function of a protein complex implicated in HSP and the characterization of corresponding mouse models. Our laboratory is part of the Cluster of Excellence for research on aging associated disease (CECAD) in Cologne. The scientific environment is highly dynamic and interactive and offers several opportunities of scientific exchange and collaborations. The successful candidate must have a degree (master/diploma) in science (e.g. biology, biochemistry, chemistry or biotechnology) and a strong research interest in neuroscience and cell biology. Previous experience in cell biology or mouse genetics is an advantage but not a pre-requisite. Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

How to apply: Interested candidates should send a cover letter addressed to the principal investigator (elena.rugarli@uni-koeln.de), stating their motivation for applying to this position and research interests, including relevant background; a curriculum vitae including names and contact information for at least two references; and the transcripts of the University degrees. Please combine documents into a single PDF document.

Deadline for Application: October 15th 2017
